Show Wins!
What's a conformation dog show for? Basically, to evaluate breeding stock. The Bulldog Club of America has a standard. The standard is a written description of what would be the "perfect" bulldog...if such a thing existed. This description describes physical items like weight, eye color and shape, coat colors, placement of ears, tail, feet, etc. When a bulldog is entered in a dog show, the judge is comparing the entered dogs against this "perfect" bulldog described in the standard. The closer the dog is to the standard, the better it will do at a dog show. Of course some judges put more emphasis on certain parts of the standard than other judges, which accounts for some of the variety in placement at dog shows.
